Laptops That Defied the Norms.

When someone says "laptop", the picture that comes to mind is a clamshell device with a screen panel fixed to a keyboard panel. But there are a few laptops that have put their toe out of the line. Yes. Innovation has driven the makers to create laptops that look different. They serve different purposes too. While some of them have actually come into being, some others are still in their conceptual stage. Have a look.

gscreenThe gScreen G400 Laptop is our first unique looking laptop. It has two identical 15.4" screens peering at you like a pair of eyes. Termed as the 'first true dual screen laptop', the gScreen G400 is a power-house that fits the bill for gaming. NVidia graphics has been incorporated in it. Options for boosting up the processor, the RAM and the hard drive of this innovative device, make it flexible for use in a variety of fields. Another attraction in this workstation is the 6 USB ports and a Firewire port housed in it.

KohjinshaThe Kohjinsha DZ Dual Display Netbook is also a twin screen laptop. It has smaller 10.1" 1024 x 600 pixel displays. The screens can be used together to display content over a wider area. There's a Sega TV tuner integrated in this device as well. Thus this 'out of the ordinary' device serves as an entertainer. Designers, architects, people in other fields of creativity can find use for this dual screen laptop. Certain research activities can also take advantage of the twin displays. The other specifications of this laptop are quite mediocre - something you'd expect to find in any netbook.

AsusThe Asus Dual Panel Notebook concept is next in line. This device has 2 screens too, but no keyboard, and looks much like a conventional notebook. Hence it is completely controlled by touch. This notebook can also be used like a normal laptop with one panel displaying a virtual keyboard and the other acting as a normal screen. The intuitive interface has been designed to comprehend natural gestures and recognize handwriting. This one of a kind notebook can be used for watching movies, playing games and all other mobile computations.

LenovoThe Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds laptop sports 2 screens as well. However, here the 2 displays are non identical. The main screen is a 17" one with a full HD resolution. The secondary display is smaller with a diagonal measure of 10.6" and a resolution of 1280 x 760 pixels. This little screen sticks out of the side of the primary one. Under the hood, this rare device has an Intel quad core processor which clocks at 2.53GHz. NVidia graphics has been employed as well. This Lenovo laptop is blessed with a rich set of connections too, that includes 5 USB ports, a Firewire port and the other regular interfaces. The Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds can be used for scientific researches and study, wherein the overall view can be displayed on the smaller screen and a particular section can be zoomed in on the main screen.

IntelThat was a row of dual screens. But wait, the next laptop we're going to talk about beats them all. It is the Intel Tangent Bay laptop which has 4 screens! The workstation looks like a real laptop, unlike the others mentioned above. There is a main LCD screen and 3 small OLED ones located above the keys on the keyboard. These mini screens are multi-touch capable. Applications can be launched from them. Files can be moved between them as well. Overcrowding of apps on the screen can be avoided too.

DellOur next innovative design laptop is the Dell Adamo XPS. It has only one screen and one keyboard. What's unique here is this laptop has a heat sensor. Rub your fingers over it and it unfolds automatically. The keyboard slants at an angle and the laptop rests on the battery. This makes for ventilation. Another interesting aspect about this device is that it beats the record of Apple MacBook Air as the world's thinnest laptop.

Even HP have come out with some conceptual laptops, that look quite amazing. The HP Nobag folds into a roll, like an umbrella. The HP Make-Up looks cute with its pink case, integrated nail printer, make-up set and a screen, which can turn reflective to become a mirror. The HP Fitness, with its rough and tough case can double as a weighing machine. The HP Perfume has a transparent case and some kind of mechanism that makes it a room freshener as well.
