Browser Scripting Errors

Don Bradbury looks at one aspect of script error trouble-shooting

If, while you're logged onto the Internet via AOL, you get scripting errors while attempting to access other sites, try loading Microsoft's version of Internet Explorer over the top of the AOL version of the Browser and access the site that way to see what effect it has.

Two error reports in particular you might see are "Not Implemented" and "Object Expected". You can try clearing these by clicking on the "Yes" box to proceed but, while that may progress you on some web sites, it will not on others. In the latter case you may get only a blank screen which you'll have to close.

If Internet Explorer still produces script errors, go into its Tools menu and select Internet Options, Advanced, and take a look down the list of options listed in the Browsing section. There you will see two entries, "Disable script debugging", and "Display a notification about every script error".

Make sure these are unchecked; ie if they have a tick against them, click on the tick box to remove the tick in each case. That should enable you to browse the site in question without error reports. Depending on what requirements that site has on your browser, you may find full functionality is restored. Some errors may necessitate software upgrades, but check the error report first and see whether you think it is required.

Indeed, these settings should carry over into your AOL browser, fixing two birds with one stone, you might say!
